Arts Education: How important is it?

The link below brings you to a great article on why the arts can be essential for everyone. I completely agree with Horne, who says in this article, “When you think about the purposes of education, there are three. We’re preparing kids for jobs. We’re preparing them to be citizens. And we’re teaching them to be human beings who can enjoy the deeper forms of beauty. The third is as important as the other two.”

I strongly believe that an education in the arts (whether it is art, music, or theater) helps build one’s creativity and also increases achievement in other subject areas. Growing up, the art and music programs at my schools have shaped me so greatly that I can’t imagine what my education would have been like if the arts were cut at my schools.
